Legitimate Home Based Businesses?!

Posted By Olivia on July 2, 2009

A new subscriber of mine asked this question: How do I find a “real” opportunity with so many false ideas based on greed?

Boy, do I know how you feel?  It’s funny he asked that question because I have been wondering the same thing this week.  As I seek out real home based business opportunities to share with you I come across so many scams or greedy people.  It’s no wonder so many people are leery.  It’s hard to find legitimate people!  If someone is promising you a “get rich quick opportunity” then it’s probably not legitimate.  If someone tells you that you can start a home based business for free, then it’s probably not legitimate or they are in it for the money! There are ways to start a business for low cost, but I’ve never come across one that is free.

I wish I could tell you that starting and managing a business is easy, but I can’t.  There will always be some sort of learning curve and responsibilities.  Some businesses will be easier to start and run than others.  That’s why it’s important that you do what you enjoy.  It’s also important to have a strong “WHY”….why are you doing this, what are your goals you are trying to reach.  If you don’t know where you are going, how will you know when you get there? Your “WHY” will keep you going in the tough times.

Here are a few ideas when trying to find a legitimate home business opportunity that will be right for you:

-Let your experience be your guide.  Start with what you know.  Consider how you can take your skills or hobby’s and turn them into a business.

-Do what you love and enjoy what you do.  If you start a business to get rich, that’s not for the right reason.  If you find a business that will make you rich, but you hate it….well, let’s just say you will be miserable, but have a lot of money.  If you don’t enjoy what you do, the business will become a chore, not a joy.

-Don’t reinvent the wheel, just make it better.  You don’t have to come up with a new business idea to be successful.  Take a look around you  and see where there might be a void that needs filling or a business concept that needs improvement.

-Focus on a niche.  You can’t be all things to all people.  Try to identify a niche that you would enjoy working in and think about starting a business in that niche.

-A franchise could be an option.  Franchises, although expensive, are a good way to jumpstart the process because they have already done much of the hard work for you.  Thoroughly investigate the franchisor and the opportunity, use your own attorney to do the deal, and read the fine print in the franchise agreement.

-It’s hard to swim in a crowded pool.  If  your niche is crowded, then you will have to do something to stand out in the crowd.  If  you can’t quickly differentiate yourself from a large group of competitors, you’re better off choosing another business.

-And above all take your time.  Research the business opportunity. Take the time required to make an informed decision.  You could start part time while you still have your current job to fall back on. Talk to friends and associates who use the product or service you will provide to see if they would consider becoming paying customers.

On my website I will only list legitimate home businesses.  You can also go to the library and find books on home based businesses.  There are tons of ideas in those.  Go get an entrepreneurial magazine and see if there’s anything in there that will strike your fancy.  There are a lot of legitimate businesses and people out there, you just have to sort and sift through the junk.

One of the reasons I started this business is to help people find legitimate opportunities.

How To Start An Online Homebased Business

Posted By Olivia on June 17, 2009

A lot of my readers have given me some of their “biggest questions” about starting an online homebased business. One of the main questions is, “How do I start?”. I can totally relate to that question. Starting an online homebased business can be overwhelming because there is so much to learn. Everyone’s journey will be different, but I can give you some starting points that will help with any business you decide to start.

Deciding what business to start is the first step. In the online community this is called,”determining your niche market” (who will be your target market, what product or service will you sell). You first need to figure out what skills, interests, and talents you have. Ask yourself what you’re good at, what do people ask you advice for, what books and magazines do you read, etc. Make a list of these things and pick out one or two things that you think could be a profitable business. This will require doing some market research.

My mentor Steve Beck says: If you can save people time, save people money, save people pain and frustration with your business…..then it will be profitable.

How do you do market research? Go to Amazon.com and see how many books or magazines are in your niche. Pay special attention to the “For Dummies” and “Idiots Guide” books. You might find a profitable niche just by paying attention to those books.

Are people interested and talking about your niche? Go to Google and type in your niche (example: dog training blog) along with the word forum or blog. If there are forums or blogs talking about your niche then this can be a good indicator that you have found a profitable business.

Are people advertising in your niche? Type your topic into Google. When your search comes up, look on the right hand side, there should be a column of ads there. If people are paying for advertisement in that column, then it is probably a profitable niche.

Once you determine this, then it’s time to come up with a name. Even if you are not starting an online business you need to think about setting a website up for your business. So, once you come up with a name, go to www.GoDaddy.com and see if your business name is taken. If it is, come up with another name. Once you find a name, purchase it through GoDaddy. Go to Google and type in “GoDaddy Coupons” because they usually have coupons.

I know that sounds simple, but most people don’t even make it past this part. Most of the time it is because they have a fear of failing. Don’t worry about everything being perfect, just start somewhere. I like this saying I once read: First a thing is impossible, then it’s difficult, then it’s done.

One of the easiest, cheapest, and fastest ways to make money online is through Affiliate marketing. Jimmy D. Brown has a course called Affiliatenaire . You make money by selling other people’s products or services with affiliate marketing. Jimmy Brown does a great job teaching you how to do this step by step. Visit Affiliatenaire here if you are interested.

A lot of you want to know how to set up a website. I am in the middle of creating a video tutorial that will help you with this. As soon as I’m finished I will let you know. But until then, if you have any questions please feel free to email me at: Bookmark and Share

The Process Of Starting A Christian Home Based Business

Posted By Olivia on June 10, 2009

There are many things to consider when starting your Christian home based business. It is a process and a journey. We go through many stages during this process. Below, I’ve listed a few of the stages everyone goes through when starting on this journey. Just remember, we can’t start at the finish line. So if you get antsy or frustrated because it’s not going fast enough, just remember these stages that I have listed for you. It’s part of the learning process.

Here are some of the things that we go through and think about when we first start out on the journey.:

-We think about our business 24/7 because we are excited about all the possibilities.
-We research and talk to others about our ideas
-We might even worry and wonder if we can actually do it

Once we have come up with the business we want:

-We come up with a name for our business
-We focus on learning (there is a learning curve when starting a business, be patient with yourself)
-Set up systems and structures
-Develop a marketing plan
-Set up a website (this will take time to learn, or you can always outsource it)
-Order business cards

You’re all set, right? Well, look at what stages come next.

-You will let people know about your product and service
-Marketing will be your top priority (you have to learn how to market if you don’t already have the know how)
-You usually have a limited budget so you have to get creative
-You will test and fine tune everything
-Then you realize how much you still have to learn (It’s a process)

Now you’ll feel like you are making some progress:

-You’ll figure out who your ideal clients are
-Email list (if you have one and you should) is growing
-You’ll have learned from your mistakes and will be willing to take risks
-You might be making enough money to outsource some jobs

Things are starting to become a lot easier:

-You should have a loyal client base by now
-More of a consistent cash flow
-Established joint venture relationships
-Continually investing in growing yourself and your business

Now you’re cookin’:

-Your business is running without you
-You are proud of what you built
-You might even be ready for a new challenge
-You can focus on your true passions
-You understand life is all about the journey

Starting a Christian home based business is exciting and scary all at the same time. It requires patience, commitment, and dedication. It’s never going to be get rich quick. One of my mentors told me, “If it was easy, everyone would do it.” It’s not just about making the money, it’s about the journey. Focus on that and you will be better prepared for the challenges that lay ahead.

48 Hr. Action Plan For Your Online Christian Home Based Business

Posted By Olivia on June 6, 2009

HERE’S a quick 48 HOUR GAME PLAN to get your online Christian home based business up and runing:

Step 1: Find the product you want to promote (either digital or physical)
Step 2:Submit your website to social bookmarking sites. (Digg.com Reddit.com, Propeller.com)
Step 3: Build your website (Wordpress is the easiest)
Step 4: Create a blog for your website and post content regularly on it.
Step 5: Write articles and create content on web 2.0 sites (squiddo.com, hubpages.com, weebly.com)
Step 6: Repeat Step 5 over and over again

Here’s a list of some article directories where you can submit your articles to:
-EzineArticles.com
-GoArticles.com
-ArticleDashboard.com
-ArticlesBase.com

It takes time to ramp up your traffic. But keep writing articles and get your content out there on high-ranking websites, and soon you’ll have traffic coming from places you don’t even expect. One of the advantages of putting your content on article directories like Ezinearticles.com is that other people can take your content and put it on their site – as long as they keep your resource “box”. That means…more links to your website, and that means more traffic!

How much traffic you get will always vary not on just how many articles you write, but where you post and how widely your articles get distributed – so it pays to write those articles well!
